Byredo Parfums 'Tree House' CandleFriday, 19 September 2014
I could not tell you exactly how long I've wanted this candle - but it's been years. I spotted it the first time I ever walked into a Mecca Cosmetica, which I'm sure was around three years ago now. I remember picking it up, and thinking 'Wow, this is different.'
At the time, I had never really smelt a high end candle - perhaps Ecoya and Glasshouse were about as high end as I ever got, but those fragrances never really captured me. It wasn't until I picked up this candle that I realised that I was definitely more into those earthy scents as opposed to floral. I couldn't stop sniffing it in store, and I remember walking away so disheartened because there was no way I could afford to spend $95 on ONE candle.
Years later, after the beauty blogging community pulled me in, I also discovered Diptyque candles, and on one very spendy day decided to just squeeze my eyes shut and hand my credit card over as I paid $78 for a Diptyque candle - I didn't tell anybody in real life for the longest time, thinking they would think I was a silly girl for spending that much money on a candle.
Here I am now, though - sitting and staring at my nearly finished Diptyque candle, and wondering what I'm going to do when I can't fill my room with it's amazing fragrance anymore (duh, buy another). Byredo popped into my head suddenly, and literally the next day I was in the city, grubby little hands outstretched as the lady hands me the candle I have been wanting for years. It was really like a romance movie - it was very intense for me.
These candles may be a little on the pricey side, but I now understand why - these beautiful, hand crafted and unique scents are something else. They have so much hard work behind them in order to create these magnificent scents, so unique and so special - I'll happily hand my credit card over for something I know is a little different, and a little special. Not to mention - the burn rates are pretty amazing. I've had that Diptyque candle for over a year now, and it's only on it's last legs now, after burning it several nights a week.
I've gotten a little distracted here - I'm meant to be describing this amazing candle, but I've gone off on a bit of a tangent. I think it's just important to realise why certain candles cost a lot more - and my novel esque review right here should tell you everything you need to know.
To cut a long story short - I'm extremely happy with my new purchase. It smells so divine, I can't stop sticking my nose in it every time I walk past. The smell literally lingers, which is one of my favourite things about this candle. I can walk into the room when I haven't burnt it for days and I can still smell it, which is a sign of quality perfume, if you ask me!
If you're ever near a Mecca Cosmetica - or your local Byredo stockist - I highly recommend giving these bad boys a sniff, they're absolutely luxe and that packaging is just...on point.
